Lobbyist contract renewed; Club
Challenge begins sixth installment
The ISSA Board of Directors approved another increase in its
contract with lawyers Mike Heller and Paula Feltner to serve as the
association’s Des Moines-based lobbying team for the sixth consecutive
legislative session. The $1,000 bump brings their compensation to
$19,500, payable in four installments annually.
Due to its ties to politics and legislative issues, the lobbyists’ price tag
is a direct expense to the ISSA’s General Fund and does not qualify for
reimbursement through the ISSA’s $40,000 Memorandum of
Understanding Grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
At its current rate, the lofty contract consumes half of the
association's budget, and in order to offset this expense, the ISSA is
once again turning to its members and clubs to step up to the plate by
donating to the Legislative Action Fund through the association’s Club
Challenge.
Six years ago, then-ISSA Region 8 Director Ron Kingsbury and his
home club, the Central Iowa Snowmobilers, conceived the idea for this
fund-raising mechanism which, to date, has generated approximately
$22,203.
The Club Challenge renews each November during convention
weekend. Those interested in contributing can contact past ISSA
presidents Dave Carmichael at (319) 610-5265 or Bruno Andreini at
(515) 240-3858 or their respective ISSA region directors.
