Study on Snowmobiling in Iowa
In an effort to localize the sport’s impact, the ISSA’s Emergency
Funding/Legislation Committee has commissioned the Economics
Department at Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames to perform an
Economic Impact Study on Snowmobiling in Iowa.
The study is expected to cost $10,000 to complete. In September, the
ISSA board voted to allocate up to $5,000 in general funds to help offset
that expense with other potential revenue streams identified as grant funds
from ISMA and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).
“The funding can be overcome,” said Bruno Andreini, past ISSA president
and committee co-chair. “This study is the single-most important thing we
can get done before we start talking to our legislators again.”
Overseeing the study is Economics Professor Dan Otto and Senior
Research Associate Mark Imerman. Otto said the study should be
completed by the time the Iowa Legislature convenes in January.
“We want to complete our study in a way that will be most useful to the
snowmobile association,” he explained. “Expected findings include
information on the location and value of all snowmobiles across the state
and annual expenditures. Only aggregate results will be reported.”
