to be Activated by Early 2006
Expected to be activated by early 2006, snowmobilers in Iowa will be
able to renew their sled registrations electronically at any agent which
sells hunting and fishing licenses, according to the Iowa Department of
Natural Resources.
Snowmobile Program Coordinator David Downing said it will simplify the
process and eliminate the excuses for snowmobilers who “forget” to
register. The end result should be increased registrations and therefore
more revenue to allocate for the trail system.
For this season only, Downing said sled owners will be able to renew
either electronically or at their respective county recorders’ offices. The
former will print out a sticker to be affixed to the windshield, while the
latter will continue to supply the traditional stickers for each side of the
hood.
“There will be a mixture of both out on the trail this winter, but by next
season, we want to go straight to the electronic system sticker and save
approximately $17,000,” Downing explained. “This, of course, is for
renewals only. If you have anything but a renewal, you will still have to
go to the county recorder’s office.”
