Win 2008-09 EMR Program Drawing
More than 1,200 snowmobiling families in Iowa joined the ISSA or
drive one of the most successful in the history of the ISSA’s Early
Membership and Renewal Program (EMR) and its predecessor, the
Members Recruiting Members Program (MRM).
According to EMR Committee Chair Guy Overland, 1,254 members
signed up or renewed for the current snowmobile season by the posted
deadline and, in doing so, qualified to be entered into a drawing for a
three-night, six-person vacation package to Pat’s Landing near
Hayward, WI.
Valued at $990, the package cost the ISSA only $400, thanks to
resort owner Kris Treland’s long-standing support of the association.
New to this year’s program, the vacation offering replaced the program’
s traditional drawing prize of a new Yacht Club two-place snowmobile
trailer.
For each membership, the individual was entered into the drawing as
was the sponsoring club. At the ISSA’s December Board of Directors
meeting in Waterloo, the Worth County Fencestretchers snowmobile
club of Region 3 was drawn as the lucky winner of the Northwoods
vacation package.
The ISSA is now looking to build on this momentum to finish the
year strong. According to Membership Committee Chair Diane Childs,
1,143 member-families had not renewed as of Dec. 14. If each
outstanding family sends in its dues, the ISSA could reach membership
levels not seen in the several years.
For some historical perspective, long-time ISSA Membership
Committee Chair Dick Melick said membership was at its strongest in
1976 with an estimated 5,000 families and at its lowest in the late 1980s
at a dismal 800 members. He said he hopes everyone bucks the trend
and renews their membership this year.
“Every year, we seem to lose the same number of members that we
gain,” Melick said. “It’s a phenomena I really can’t explain. We also
used to have 100 associate members.”
Membership in the ISSA costs $15 per family or individual.
Associate memberships cost $25 per business partner. There are
currently 45 paid associate members for 2008-09, or roughly half of
previous levels. Closing that gap would be a boon to the ISSA’s
operating budget, according to Immediate Past ISSA President Merv
Hoermann.
“We’re not going out and talking to the people we do business with,”
Hoermann said in his farewell address to members at the 2008 ISSA
Convention in November. “We spend a lot of money at these places,
and their memberships are very important to our organization. We need
to make a renewed effort to talk to these people.”
As an incentive to recruit additional associate members, the ISSA
Board of Directors in December approved a $5 commission to each
ISSA member who secures a $25 associate membership or sells a $25
website link on the ISSA’s website at www.iowasnowmobiler.com.
