In addition to his service to the ISSA, Vagts has served as
secretary/treasurer for his home club, the Driftrunners, Inc., of Cresco,
as well as continues to chair the International Snowmobile Council’s
Insurance Committee. Since 1993, he has been a member of the Iron
Dog Brigade
His legacy to the snowmobile community has been his work on trail
insurance. Vagts was a co-founder of one of the United States’ first
snowmobile trail liability insurance companies, and he has worked with
snowmobile organizations across the Snow Belt to improve trails, safety
and general awareness of the sport.
Joining Vagts in the Class of 2007 was Elmer Cone of Bovey, Minn.,
president and co-founder of the ISHOF. Next year, induction ceremonies
move to the ISHOF’s satellite location in Eagle River, Wis. For more on
Vagts’ honor, watch for issues of the Iowa Snowmobiler this fall.
Snowmobile trail insurance pioneer Dale Vagts of
Cresco was inducted into the International
Snowmobile Hall of Fame (ISHOF) during
ceremonies at Ruttger’s Sugar Lake Lodge in
Grand Rapids, Minn., Feb. 24.
Vagts of V&V Insurance of Cresco became the
fourth past ISSA president to be enshrined, joining
Dan Martin of Davenport (1991), Dick Melick of
Cedar Falls (2001) and Dave Carmichael of Tripoli
(2005). He was inducted in the Volunteer and
