Due July 1; Electronic Form Available Online
Attention, Iowa snowmobile clubs: The 2008-09 Snowmobile Trail Grant
Applications are due back to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources
by July 1. According to Rhonda Fowler, new program planner for the
state snowmobile program, electronic and PDF versions can be found
online at www.iowadnr.gov/grants/atv.html.
"For those of you thinking this shortens the time frame for completing
the application even more, please note that I am offering to make the five
extra copies of any grant application which is returned to me
electronically," Fowler said. "Anyone submitting their applications with
paper copies will need to include the five extra copies.
Fowler said she would like to have a valid e-mail address for each club
and two would be even better. Ideally the club president and treasurer are
best as those are the people we most generally need to be in contact with
the IDNR. However, for some clubs, including the groomer contact on
correspondence is important.
"When you return your application, please indicate if e-mails should also
be sent to your groomer contact," Fowler said. "I’ve already had a
couple of questions that I will share the answers to since we have
changed things a bit this year."
A note on signatures for grant applications submitted electronically: If
you have the ability to scan your signature and then cut and paste that
would be great. Otherwise put /S/ on the signature line to indicate that
your signature was submitted electronically.
Special Permits
Included in the grant package is the IDNR-required special events
application. It does not need to be returned on July 1, but the IDNR is
asking that clubs complete it and send it to their respective county
conservation officers with as much notice as possible.
"In the past, there has been some flexibility with the 30-day provision this
is not likely to continue," Fowler explained. "I understand the challenge
of the unpredictable nature of snow cover so you might have a preferred
date listed and an alternate so that a last-minute change will be easier."
Club Insurance
The insurance form from V & V Insurance has a list of events that are
included under your insurance contract. If that information does not
clarify if your event is a special event or not, please contact the insurance
agency directly for a decision at (563) 547-2161.
"The insurance company will make that determination and not the
IDNR," Fowler explained. "However, it would be nice for me to get a
copy of the insurance company’s special permit form as it provides more
detail than our form and it would be nice to have it on file."
