Managing Editor, Iowa Snowmobiler
Iowa snowmobilers raised more than $12,000 for charity in 2008, a 50
percent increase over 2007 levels and an amount the ISSA’s Charity
Committee will be proud to report at the International Snowmobile
Congress at Prince Edward Island, Canada, this June.
“Your fundraising over the past year has been tremendous, and I feel
everyone deserves a round of applause for that,” recognized committee
co-chair Angie Sprung during the ISSA’s annual convention in Waterloo
in November.
Along with fellow co-chair Kim Herman, Sprung reminded snowmobile
clubs to turn in their charity surveys by April 1 so any additional
donations can be noted at the 2009 ISC. While the state charity season
runs from convention to convention, reporting at the international level is
based on activities from April to March.
“It’s really important that we turn those surveys in,” Sprung
encouraged. “As we saw out at the 2008 Congress in Boise, many states
were underrepresented in their charity work. When we send these
surveys out, you need to send them back in so we get credit for the
work we do. Last year made Iowa look like we had a low number,
which wasn’t necessarily the case.”
The three-page survey was mailed to clubs last fall. It also available
online here as an MS Word document. In addition to donations to the
Spina Bifida Association of Iowa, the ISSA’s official charity, the survey
is also requesting numbers related to other charitable activities at the
club level.
For example, clubs are encouraged to calculate the time their members
spend voluntarily marking and grooming trails as well as hosting
landowner appreciation dinners and offering scholarship programs. If an
Iowa snowmobile club helped sandbag during last June’s record
flooding, that time counts as well.
“Please keep track of any fundraising drives or donations you have held
or will be holding,” the survey reads. “We would also like to know the
total number of hours spent without any sort of reimbursement on your
trails.”
Prior to Congress this June, the ISSA Charity Committee will turn in the
completed surveys to Donna White of Wisconsin, international charity
committee chair. For more information and for questions, Sprung can
